Mural

Over the past few weeks rooms 5 & 6 have been talking about ideas on a maori design mural.
We have been working on the mural.
Mr Cox has been taking small groups from each class to do a wee bit at a time.
First Mr Cox drew a design of the Maori gods and its surroundings on to a bit of A4 paper.
We then traced it on to a clear sheet of paper.
Then it got moved onto a big piece of
paper using projector.
The next step was to paint the gods. Tumatauenga,
Rongo, Humia-tiketike, Tane mahuta,
Tawhirimatea, Papatuinuku and
Ranginui.
After painting, we had to outline where the characters, trees, clouds, stars and hills would be on the mural. Then we got some cardboard and drew the characters on it. We then had to paint and outline the bits of cardboard.
After painting
and outling we stuck it on the mural to making the characters look pop-out. During all of the painting, drawing, and outlining, other people have been cutting koros and tracing around them on strips of cardboard. Then we painted around the koro tracings and stuck koros inside the tracings. These strips are going to be the border around the mural.

Today some kids helped Mr Cox put the mural up in the foyer. It looks AWESOME!!! Here are some more photos!!!
